New Generation of Leadership: Memphis Ice Legacy Continues

Learn the cool history behind Memphis Ice Machine Company, and the family behind it!

Memphis Ice Machine Company isn’t just any old business; it’s a locally owned family affair deeply rooted in the heart of Memphis. Founded in 1977 by Robert (Bob) Halfacre Sr., the company has been a fixture in the community for generations. With new leadership in place, the Halfacre family legacy continues as the company continues to grow.

The Halfacre Legacy

Robert_and_Daughter_BetsyBob’s entrepreneurial spirit laid the foundation for what would become a thriving business that would stand the test of time. A few years in,Bob’s daughter, Betsy, joined to manage the financial side of things while raising her young son, Clark, at home.

As the years passed, Bob’s sons, Jeff and Bobby, joined the team, bringing fresh energy and ideas to the table. However, fate had other plans.

In 1987, a devastating fire engulfed their building, reducing the physical property of their family business to ashes. But true to form, Bob saw opportunity in adversity, relocating the company to a new location on Delp Street—where it remains today.

Through it all, the Halfacre family’s resilience and commitment to their employees remained unwavering. Long-time staff members of the past and present, like Tommy Snowden, Alan Balsam, Clarence Stewart, Tommy Cox, Philip Futris, Jeff Fisher and Joe Phillips, each of whom dedicated 15+ years of service, are valued as their loyalty is woven into the fabric of the company’s identity.

A New Generation of Leadership

ClarkLawrenceNow, the torch of leadership is being passed to a new generation. Clark Lawrence, who grew up at Memphis Ice, steps into his role with a sense of pride and purpose. Having officially joined the company in 2011 after earning degrees from University of Mississippi and Arizona State University and gaining valuable experience owning and operating his own small businesses, Clark brings to the table not only a solid background in operations but also a profound appreciation for the enduring values that have guided Memphis Ice for decades.

As we embark on a new chapter, it’s important to recognize the incredible vision of Bob, who passed in 2009, as well as the contributions of his kids, Betsy, Bobby, and Jeff. Their dedication and hard work have been the driving force behind Memphis Ice Machine Company’s success over the years. They shaped the company’s culture and laid the groundwork for its growth. We’re immensely grateful for their leadership and wish them all the best as they enjoy their well-earned retirements. Their legacy will always be cherished as Memphis Ice Machine Company continues to be a testament to the power of family, community, and perseverance.

Together, we look forward to continuing the tradition of excellence that has defined Memphis Ice for generations to come.
